Dutch Applecake

People always seem to talk about using their 'Grandmother's recipe'  . . . Granny's Apple Pie, Granny's Chocolate Chip Cookies, Granny's Lemon Meringue Pie . . . I'm not sure if these Grannys exist, but it always makes something sound a bit better, doesn't it?

I'm now one of those people. But this is my REAL Grandmother's recipe for Dutch Applecake. I was sorting through our cookbook/recipe cupboard in the kitchen (what a mess) and unearthed some of my Grandmother's typed up recipes - this applecake being one of them (and there's actually one for lemon meringue pie too - what a cliche). For some reason, with the recipe written up on a typewriter, it just looks better. I feel it's got to be good!  Maybe I'll write my recipes in that font from now on?

I didn't make any changes - apart from adding a touch of nutmeg. Oh and the cake was meant to be square . . .

Apple Arrangement - with a sprinkle of sugar + cinnamon + nutmeg

This is certainly a recipe for keeps!

Now, for my next blog, I've been thinking . . .

Recently I've been thinking a lot about bread (a bit weird I know), but I'm wanting to build up my bread 'repertoire' (bread repertoire??). So, I'm going to set myself a 'Bread Challenge' and make 5 different kinds of bread. I've already made one of them - but will make the other 4 in the next week or so. My family is going to have to consume a lot of carbohydrate! Oh well . . .all in the name of baking! :D
