Operation Battenburg

Battenburg has been my recent baking obsession. I saw the recipe on the Hairy Bikers: Mum's Know Best programme a few weeks back and have made 2 or 3 since. It must be that geordie charm ;)

Hairy Biker Battenburg.....mmmmm.

This time though, I decided to try something a bit different. . . .

 You guessed it.

The colours are disgusting, the mixture looked a bit like acrylic paint (and with all that food colouring, it probably tasted like it too) and the blue and green sponge looked a bit like mould. So yes, this cake may be a monster, but I sure did have fun making it!

Crime against cake

I also looked up battenburg on wikipedia (as you do) and found out a bit about the cake's 'history'. Apparently, the cake was made in honour of the marriage of Queen Victoria's granddaughter and Prince Louis of Battenberg in 1884. Little did they know that over 100 years later, I'd be making this monster!

Chocolate Mud Pie - what a mess.

I spotted this book at work and got a little bit distracted (and hungry) by the delicious recipes inside. I just had to make the Chocolate Mud Pie! So here it is (with the addition of a few sprinkles!).

Welcome :D

I didn't actually think I'd ever make a blog. To be honest, I think it'd be rather boring to write and rather boring to read. So instead of writing about myself, I'm going to write about food!

I must admit, I am a bit of a crazy when it comes to baking. Once I start looking through a recipe book, I'll want to make it all. I have countless brownie recipes, chocolate chip cookie and shortbread recipes. I know they're pretty much all the same, but they all just look so good!! I'm always convinced that 'this one' is better than the last.

I even have 'baking days'... WHOLE days just dedicated to baking. Even now I've got something in the oven - Chocolate Mud Cake.  It's sinking a bit in the middle and looks a bit burnt round the edges but I'll hopefully be able to salvage it!

I'm certainly not a Delia (or a Nigella :P) but I do just love to cook. So this blog is a bit of an experiment and really just a celebration of all things tasty.
Enjoy :D
